Marcello Costa Award picture

This Award recognises the scientific contribution of the late Professor Marcello Costa, a recipient of the ANS Distinguished Achievement Award and generous supporter of the Society. Marcello’s major research contributions concern the neural regulation of the gastrointestinal system. This annual Award is for the best publication on neural regulation of organs by an early career researcher member of the Society. Areas of research relevant to this Award include studies on central or peripheral autonomic regulation of specific organs or organ systems, and visceral sensory (including nociceptive) innervation of these organs. The successful applicant will receive a certificate and prize money of $500.

Conditions

  • Applicants must be Members of ANS.
  • The award will be made for a first or senior author (including joint first or senior authors) publication based on research completed on neural regulation of organs, as a PhD student (or equivalent) or postdoctoral researcher and published within 3 years of the award of PhD (or equivalent), considering career disruptions.
  • The application must refer to, and submit, an electronic version of the publication.
  • The publication date must be in the year prior to the award application year. Electronic or hard copy publication date, whichever is the earliest, will be used in the assessment.
  • Subject to the decision of the Program Committee, the awardee may be invited to present a summary of their latest research relating to this publication at the ANS Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • A publication submitted for the Marcello Costa Award may not be submitted for the Mark Rowe Award or the Paxinos Watson Award.
  • The judges will rank the nominated papers on the basis of their scientific significance mindful of the recommendations of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) at https://sfdora.org/read/
